Driving Collaboration & Efficiency in Clinical and Translational Science

Strategic Management

The strategic management of ACTRI, home to the CTSA hub, is driven by strong partnerships and advisory committees to optimize resources in support of our mission: advancing clinical and translational science (CTS) strategies to address research barriers and improve outcomes. Our administrative efforts, led by Administrative Director Liz Johnson and MPI Dr. Smith, are supported by three integrated units: Operations & Research Services (ORS), Business & Finance (B&F), and the Evaluation Unit (EU), ensuring seamless coordination for our programs.

Business and Finance Unit

The ACTRI Business and Finance (B&F) Unit provides efficient and compliant financial and administrative support while fostering a culture of excellence in grant management. The B&F Unit strives to:

  • Deliver efficient and compliant pre-award, post-award, and fund management services.
  • Train staff, investigators, and institutions in best practices for grant management.

Evaluation Unit

ACTRI's Evaluation unit supports the ACTRI's programs and leadership in efforts to develop goals, targets and relevant metrics of success, assesses progress toward those goals, and improves performance and management. ACTRI Evaluation unit uses an integrated "Balanced Scorecard-Monday" platform as a framework for program and institute planning. The ACTRI Evaluation Unit works hand in hand, and in partnership with other programs to support efforts to achieve success.

ACTRI Partner Institutes

Our center’s success and ability to address community priorities hinge on the strategic partnerships we cultivate. We partner with institutions within and outside of UCSD that span across multiple disciplines: Biomedical Sciences, Clinical, & Education to advance our Clinical and Translational Science goals of 1) translating across the translational spectrum from local basic research discoveries into clinical health solutions, 2) training the local CTS workforce, and 3) providing more research opportunities to investigators serving rural, border region, pediatric, adolescent, and veteran populations.
