Frequently Asked Questions

Who needs to cite the CTSA grant?

Principal Investigators (PIs) and researchers must cite the CTSA grant (UM1 TR005449) in any resulting publications, posters, or presentations in which they are an author or co-author if their work was supported by ACTRI in any of the following ways:

Required citation applies for any of the following:

  • You are a Pilot Grant awardee, K12 scholar, or ACTRI voucher awardee
  • Your research benefited from ACTRI-funded faculty or staff support
  • Your project utilized ACTRI services, resources, or infrastructure, including but not limited to support ranging from biostatistics and informatics to regulatory guidance, recruitment and retention, study coordination and design, and community engagement.
  • You used ACTRI-supported tools, platforms, or resources, including but not limited to REDCap, Velos eResearch, ENACT Network, UCSD Health Secure Research Enclave, Virtual Secure Workstation (VSW), eFlorence, and/or ACTRI toolkits, training, and educational programs.

Additional situations where citing the CTSA grant is encouraged

If research was not directly supported by ACTRI, citation is encouraged and may be included at the discretion of the senior author. As publications are essential for demonstrating ACTRI’s impact, we strongly encourage citation in the following situations:

  • Faculty or staff with partial CTSA support contributed effort, expertise, or oversight that advanced the research.
  • ACTRI personnel provided collaborative, advisory, or intellectual contributions, including refining study aims and design, facilitating partnerships and resource connections, and coordinating meetings or multidisciplinary teams.
  • Participation in ACTRI programs or activities (e.g., training, workshops, seminars, or mentorship) that informed or strengthened the research
  • Early-stage or planning support (e.g., consultations or feasibility input) that helped guide the development of the project
If ACTRI support played a meaningful role in advancing your work, citing the CTSA grant is appropriate and encouraged.
