Advancing Ethical Research: CARE-Q Showcases Innovation at PRIM&R 2024 Annual Conference

In November, Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R) hosted its annual conference in Seattle, bringing together over 2,600 in-person and virtual attendees. The event's primary goal was to educate and connect those involved in research oversight, fostering advancements in ethical, responsible, and high-quality research practices.
One highlight of the conference was the participation of the Consortium for Applied Research Ethics Quality (CARE-Q), which proudly exhibited for the second consecutive year. CARE-Q showcased its innovative, collegial, peer-driven approach to institutional review board (IRB) quality assurance. By offering a program that is accessible to IRBs of all sizes and budgets, CARE-Q demonstrated the power of a peer-driven model in ensuring effective and compliant research oversight.
What sets CARE-Q apart is its focus on meeting regulatory requirements while emphasizing key performance metrics that ensure the ongoing quality of IRB operations. This approach provides IRBs with the necessary tools to operate both efficiently and compliantly.
At the conference, CARE-Q representatives from the University of California San Diego and University of California Davis had the opportunity to engage directly with attendees, answering questions, providing insights into the certification process, and promoting their upcoming free webinar and panel discussion on community engagement in IRBs. For those interested in staying up-to-date with CARE-Q’s initiatives and receiving valuable educational resources, joining the mailing list is a great way to stay informed.
CARE-Q continues to make waves in the research community by making quality assurance accessible, impactful, and community-driven.
