Mesa College and ACTRI

ACTRI and San Diego Mesa College established their partnership in 2023. Through this partnership, opportunities have been created for students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds. This collaboration aims to offer research experiences and training, with a focus on diversifying the workforce in clinical and translational science

Partnership Spotlight

In collaboration with San Diego Mesa College, the ACTRI CreAting Diversity in Science through Research Education (CADRE) program provides research immersion opportunities in translational science. In addition to providing employment opportunities, the students are mentored by the faculty and participate in organized training activities like the Clinical Coordinator Bootcamp.  The program supports a broad group of college students from historically under-represented backgrounds in sciences who aspire to pursue higher education and scientific careers.

CADRE Kick-Off Event 2024

On June 10th, Dr. Edward "Lalo" Cachay, ACTRI’s Community Research Partnerships Director, Carlos Rojas, Operations and Research Services Director, and ACTRI staff welcomed Pavel Consuegra, Mesa College Adjunct Faculty and Internship Coordinator, along with six undergraduate Mesa College CADRE (CreAting Diversity in Science through Research Education) scholars to the first CADRE Orientation Day at UCSD.

These scholars were hand-selected by their mentors after a rigorous application process to participate in a new clinical-training internship experience. The scholars expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to explore various pathways in the health field and to gain valuable lab work and research experience.

ACTRI is excited about this new collaboration with San Diego Mesa College and looks forward to continuing this partnership.

Community Research Partnerships (CRP)

The CRP builds and supports partnerships with health systems, universities, and public sector agencies in order to promote collaborative research with ACTRI. CRP places equal importance on engaging with community institutions interested in research and actively contributing to narrowing disparities within our science task forces while increasing diversity.
