UC San Diego Seeks Proposals for Pilot Studies on the Use of Technology to Preserve Independence in Older Adults

UC San Diego solicits applications for Pilot/Exploratory Study awards to be included in a larger proposal to the National Institute on Aging to create the University of California San Diego Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center (OAIC). The goal of these Pilot/Exploratory Studies is to provide funds to investigators with novel research ideas pertaining to the Center’s theme and provide them with the support needed to pilot their ideas and acquire information needed to expand or design future studies. The OAIC proposal will be submitted in October 2017. If the submission is successful, OAIC and pilot funding would commence in approximately July of 2018.

Pilot Funding Amount: $25,000‐$50,000 for one to three years

UC San Diego Seeks Proposals for Research and Education Support Related to the Use of Technology to Preserve Independence in Older Adults

UC San Diego solicits applications from junior investigators for salary and/or research project support to be included in a larger proposal to the National Institute on Aging to create the University of California San Diego Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center (OAIC). The Center’s Research Education Program will provide selected investigators with training, education, and mentoring to achieve academic success focused on the Center’s theme. The OAIC proposal will be submitted in October 2017. If the submission is successful, OAIC and pilot funding would commence in approximately July of 2018.

Funding Amount:

  • THOSE WITH CURRENT TRAINING AWARD FUNDING (e.g., K award, VA CDA) will be eligible to receive up to $30,000 per year for a two‐year period to support research project costs.
  • THOSE WITHOUT EXISTING TRAINING AWARDS will be eligible to receive up to $60,000 per year for a three‐year period to support salary and/or research project costs.

American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grant—2017

Michael Bouvet, MD, the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center, and the local Committee of the American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grant are pleased to announce the availability of seed money to stimulate cancer research projects of high merit among junior investigators at UC San Diego.

Amount: Up to $30,000 per award (up to 4 awards; 1 year)

UC Launches Drug Discovery Consortium

The UC Drug Discovery Consortium aims to support early drug discovery projects on UC campuses by sharing resources and expertise. The consortium launched with the help of a UC grant to the Drug, Device, Discovery and Development workgroup of UC Biomedical Research Acceleration, Integration and Development (BRAID), which includes the five UC health campuses.
